Wakum Mata! (whatever that means)
Yes. I have public posts. But think of all the stuff you're missing by not telling me you exist and want to be my friend. Sign my guestbook and say "hullo".

If you are already a friend, you are already on the readership list. Thank you for your patronage.

If you wish to be on my friends list or an IM buddy, post a request here...

Пожалуйста объявите здесь, чтобы быть добавленными к моему списку друзей. Вы будете моим другом?

...and tell me why you think that is a good idea.

If you just "friend" me, it is not likely that I will see that for a long time. If I don't know you, I likely won't be making it mutual since you didn't introduce yourself.

If you do not have a Live Journal account, then get one. They are free and LJ won't spam you.

If you simply wish to comment on a post anonymously, you don't have to have an account for that.

Boulder-sized Asteroid Will Burn Up In Eath's (sic) Atmosphere Tonight

Date Released: Monday, October 6, 2008
Source: Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics

A tiny asteroid discovered just hours ago at an Arizona observatory will enter Earth's atmosphere harmlessly at approximately 10:46 p.m. Eastern time tonight (2:46 a.m. Greenwich Mean Time). There is no danger to people or property since the asteroid will not reach the ground. It is between 3 and 15 feet (1-5 m) in diameter and will burn up in the upper atmosphere, well above aircraft heights. A brilliant fireball will be visible as a result. [...]

Wow.. I wonder if that $700 billion spent on the bailout wouldn't have been better spent on deep space killer asteroid detection?

Nah... They're not a threat. Not really.

(tip o' the hat to the Hugh Hewitt radio program for bringing this up)
28th-Jun-2006 09:28 pm - Too Effing Close!!!
Asteroid Near-Miss Set to Happen July 3

"An asteroid possibly as large as a half-mile or more in diameter is rapidly approaching the Earth.

There is no need for concern, for no collision is in the offing, but the space rock will make an exceptionally close approach to our planet early on Monday, July 3, passing just beyond the Moon's average distance from Earth."

NO NEED FOR CONCERN!?!? OMFG!!! Are you kidding?!! That is so scary close I am sweating! Oh.. nope.. not that one I just mentioned: 2004 XP14. Not that Asteroid... Yeah... 1.1 times the average distance is waywayway close, but this one is what is making me white-knuckled:

"On April 13, 2029, observers in Asia and North Africa will have a chance to see another asteroid, but without needing a telescope.

Asteroid 99942 Apophis, about 1,000 feet (300 meters) wide, is expected to be visible to the naked eye as it passes within 20,000 miles (32,000 km), inside the orbits of geosynchronous communications satellites.

Astronomers say an asteroid that large comes that close about once every 1,500 years, although 99942 Apophis will likely swing by again in 2036."

Maybe I should invest in a small umbrella, a la Wile E. Coyote. You think it would help?
