I just got back from watching District 9 with scribe_ari
Warning - contains scenes of graphic violence.
This is some of the finest SciFi I have seen in a VERY long time. The film is powerful in its anti-apartheid message and incredible in its special effects and cinematography given its paltry $30 million budget. Don't look for big name actors - there aren't any (and that is a good thing). The Hollywood prima donnas would have just soured it trying to hog as much facetime as they could get and detract from the story. The film stands on its own incredible merits. There is no Hollywood cinematic formula here. I wonder if the big lots will ever figure out that it is the STORY that matters, not the formula. This is one story that matters. Go see it. See it twice. Take a friend.
I don't want to tell you any more about the film other than to say:
"Yeah. We'd do that... and that."
"Well? What would YOU do?"
Humans... Sheesh. I need a bath.
