It is unknown if the "swine flu" actually comes from pigs. It has traits of swine, avian, and human influenza. It seems to be able to be transmitted between humans and no pigs are involved.
I didn't understand what the big fuss was since every year some 34,000 people die of just normal flu.Then I watched the news last evening and this "hybrid flu" hasn't ever been seen in people before. The WHO and CDC are nervous since they have trouble characterizing it and don't know what it can do or even where it is from. Fear of the unknown is driving the panic and the media frenzy.

WICHITA - Pork groups and veterinary researchers were left with more questions than answers Monday as they dug into the cause and impact of a flu affecting swine and people.
There's not even agreement on the name of the illness because researchers say it has elements of swine, human and avian flu strains.
"We're really at a point of a lot of speculation and not a lot of facts," said Liz Wagstrom, a veterinarian who is the National Pork Board's assistant vice president for science and technology.
