Austria is developing a disturbing trend. Could the Nazis make a comeback? What Reich are we on now? Is it still the third?

Nazis = Evil incarnate.

The far right is on the march again: the rise of fascism in Austria

In Austria's recent general election, nearly 30 per cent of voters backed extremist right-wing parties. Live visits the birthplace of Hitler to investigate how Fascism is once again threatening to erupt across Europe.

Once again the Left-leaning media perpetuates a lie: that Right means Fascist. Conservatism is NOT Fascism and CANNOT lead to it. Fascism arises out of SOCIALISM. Hitler and Mussolini did not gain power by enabling and empowering the individual; they gained power by promising to "take care" of everyone. They gained power by socializing everything. Just let the government take care of your worries!

Right-wingers are NOT fascists. Those that say so display an egregious level of ignorance about history and government - or have a socialist agenda to press forward. Fascists and Socialists want you to fear Conservatives since Conservatism would deny them the power over the people they seek.

Conservatism is OPPOSED to Fascism. Fascism and Socialism are opposed to Conservatism.

Conservatism wants LESS government intervention in your life. Fascism and Socialism want MORE control over you.

Conservatism is about INDIVIDUAL empowerment. Fascism and Socialism are about GOVERNMENT empowerment.

Do you want a recent example of the difference between Conservative and Socialist? Tell me how the recent bailouts/stimulus empower the individual. Go on... still waiting... THEY DON'T!! But they sure as heck grow the GOVERNMENT! More power for a few elites, and less for you.

Just a bit of info for you. Reich only really applied to Germany. Holy Roman Empire, and then Germany from 1871 to 1918. It is a pretty cool historical study actually...the whole thing about First, Second, and Third Reichs.

My point?
Oh. I don't think, in truth, Austria would count as a Reich...but. Maybe, if things developed right and they wanted to say it they could.

Interesting subject matter you bring up Mark.

Once again you hit the nail right on the head!

But the term 'conservative' doesn't mean the same thing it used to - it used to mean small government. Now it means an oppressive government that limits personal freedom - kinda like a fascist pr communist government.

No. Conservative still means all that I implied it did. You must be thinking "Republican". From that standpoint, you are partially correct. The Republicans, lately, want the SAME things the Democrats want. They have been trying to out Liberal the Democrats.

Just like in certain religions (cough!Christianitycough! cough!Islamcough!), some people are wrapping themselves in the lables of that faith but act contrary to the system of beliefs. John McCain is a good example of someone that claims to be conservative but isn't. GW Bush claimed to be a "compassionate Conservative" (a redundant terminology, IMHO), but tuned out to be fairly Liberal on many things.
