I don't like to be alarmist, but this is something that needs to go out to "my peeps".
Tucson is having a problem with home invasions recently. The crooks aren't even waiting for you to leave your house.
A teller in the cafeteria I spoke with today, who lives on the south side of Tucson, said that several homes in the south side have been invaded with the homeowner or occupant being tied up. Some rapes have also happened. The modus operandi (M.O.) being used is that the crooks will cut power to the house by flipping the circuit breakers outside. When you come out to investigate, they grab you.
I would like to point out that while I can find PLENTY of news on home invasions in Tucson
, I cannot find anything not anecdotal on this specific style (cutting the power). However, I do believe that there is a credible risk with having outdoor circuit breakers. Again, this method of home invasion seems anecdotal.
That being said...
If you are home and your power mysteriously goes out, make sure you have a cell phone or other defense weapon of choice with you. Keep your wits about you and proceed cautiously looking all around. If someone is in your yard without your invite... well, my opinion
is that it is easier to ask forgiveness than permission; defend yourself.
Remember, whatever you use for your personal defense (whether it be a cell phone, pepper spray, kitchen knife, firearm, tactical nuke, pulse cannon, rock, etc.), if it is not loaded and in easy arms reach at all times it is not useful to you.
