God hates WHAT again?

I think the anti-protest sign is funny. Nicely done!

What I think is abhorrent is what the Westboro Baptist Church is doing. They are DELIBERATELY misusing The Holy Bible to create HATE.

Hate... odd. I Don't recall "hate" being a Christian tenet.

Let's review what God hates, shall we?

After performing a THOROUGH search on my favorite online Bible, I have found these:

Deuteronomy 12:31 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

31 You must not worship the LORD your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the LORD hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.

---

Deuteronomy 16:21-22 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

Worshiping Other Gods
21 Do not set up any wooden Asherah pole [a] beside the altar you build to the LORD your God, 22 and do not erect a sacred stone, for these the LORD your God hates.

---

Isaiah 61:8 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

8 "For I, the LORD, love justice;
I hate robbery and iniquity.
In my faithfulness I will reward them
and make an everlasting covenant with them.

---

Amos 5:20-22 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

The day of the Lord

20 Will not the day of the LORD be darkness, not light—
pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness?

21 "I hate, I despise your religious feasts;
I cannot stand your assemblies.

22 Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings,
I will not accept them.
Though you bring choice fellowship offerings,
I will have no regard for them.

---

Malachi 2:16 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

16 "I hate divorce," says the LORD God of Israel, "and I hate a man's covering himself [a] with violence as well as with his garment," says the LORD Almighty.
So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith.

Footnote [a] Malachi 2:16 Or his wife

So... Where was this "I hate 'fags'"? I just didn't find it. Did not Jesus come to save the sinner? Of what use is a priest that evangelizes only to the choir? Of what use is an evangelist that spreads hate?

1 Timothy 2 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

Instructions on Worship
1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Where is the hate here? No. This passage is one of tolerance and acceptance... and LOVE.

So let's recap what God hates (still need to dig into the actual Hebrew translation of "hate" - English is so very non-specific):

1) God hates crooks
2) God hates believers that worship other gods
2) God Hates it when people worship Him the same manner the Pagans worship their Gods (Pagans meaning anyone not a follower of the God of Abraham and Issac, ie. the followers of Baal, Asherah, etc)
3) God hates divorce and men that beat their wife.

So let's go deeper into the concept of sin and where it fits into Christianity.

Hebrews 10 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

Hebrews 10
Christ's Sacrifice Once for All
26If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

Once you accept Christ, you have accepted the only sacrifice that can actually take away your sins. Continuing to live as a sinner is the same as rejecting the sacrifice. That is like being put on trial for a capital crime, having your charges dismissed, then standing up in court and saying "Not so fast there, Judge! Gimme my sentence!"

1 Corinthians 5 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)

1 Corinthians 5
Expel the Immoral Brother!
12What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you."

I think I'll stop there. That should speak VOLUMES to you. Don't think that it refers to any particular neighbor. It does not. It refers to fellow Christians. We are being instructed to expel those who say they believe, but act and say VERY differntly.

For example, if you are a Pagan and gay or lesbian, then what do I care who you sleep with? The larger issue, and the only fault I can point at from a Christian perspective, is that you don't accept Christ as your savior.

Once that hurdle has been crossed, then it would be possible to discuss what lifestyle is befitting a Christian. Without the larger issue of faith being addressed, the smaller issue of living one's faith is meaningless.

That sign, "God hates fags", is so unbearably UN-Christian, I cannot stand it. Are they seeking converts? How could a sign that preaches HATE ever attract someone looking for salvation? That sign preaches blind condemnation. That is not MY god. That is not the god I have come to know. That is not the god I read about in my Bible. That hate philosophy has only one purpose: to separate people from the love of Christ Jesus and to deny people the chance at the salvation He brings.

God does NOT hate "fags". It is NOT what Jesus taught. It is the opposite.

Rant over.

I love it when people use the Bible to denounce people who hate in the name of "Christianity".

I hate it when people try to coop my faith for the purposes of spreading hate or mischaracterizing my faith as one of hate and intolerance.

Biiiiiiig soapbox for me.
