Biden on Palin's speech: Style but no substance

(CNN) -- Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden praised his Republican counterpart's acceptance speech as "incredibly well-crafted and delivered," but said Sarah Palin's rhetoric lacked substance.

"I didn't hear the phrase 'middle class.' I didn't hear a single word about health care. I didn't hear a single word about helping people get to college," Biden, a U.S. senator from Delaware, told CNN's "American Morning" Thursday. [...]

What Biden really means is that he didn't hear "new entitlements" and "higher taxes".

He can't compete with her on tough lines since she IS tough and he is an established, pasty faced, limousine liberal.

Well, he does mean new entitlements, but unless you make over $250K/yr, he doesn't mean new taxes.

Don't ask me to do the math on this, because neither side has numbers that add up. If you are supporting Barr or Paul, perhaps you'll see a balanced budget in the future.

Yeah, I didn't hear anything about 'new taxes' either. Surprising, considering over the past 8 years, it's been the Republicans causing them. Dubya never met a spending bill he didn't like.

I also didn't hear anything about the pork barrel spending she hired a lobbyist to get when on the Alaska stage.

Those entitlements you whine about help pay for my dialysis, and (hopefully) pay for my transplant so I can be a wage-earning, tax-paying citizen again. Thank god for entitlements! Otherwise, you'd have heard all about my funeral by now.

You miss the difference between "aid" and "entitlement".

Entitlement is in perpetuity. Aid is until it is no longer needed.

It is the difference between a "handout" and a "hand up".

The difference lies in the person receiving the money, not the entity giving it out.

Read the definition of SSI Disability. Or Medicare. I will have both in perpetuity. The only way I can stop getting Medicre is to die. Even with private insurance, I was required to go on Medicare, and it's primary. I'd have to make a certain income to stop getting disability. Just like AFDC and WIC, only those have a foreseeable and logicalend.

Don't think the programs are a waste just because some people have learned to work the system. Most of the people getting those 'hand outs' really do need them.
