Politcally Incorrect Musings

I have been banned from editing Wikipedia by non other than Jimbo Wales himself.

Why? For researching and telling the truth about PIR.

Here are the specific edits that got me banned.

Just remember that Wikipedia is not a reliable source, folks. I use Encyclopedia Britannica these days.

... I wonder if it worth my time to see if I can get unbanned. Considering how often I edit stuff there, probably not.

UPDATE: 03 Jan, 2008 - Seems that the article has been deleted. I ask you, how much trust do you place in a user edited site with such volatility of information?

I'll often go to Wikipedia if I need to look up something basic-- a date, a specific location, some random bit of trivia for a heated online discussion (heh), but I don't take them terribly seriously. There are definitely more trustworth sources out there ... and banning you just moved them further down my list of decent sources!

The edit seems innocuous enough by itself. If you'd actually linked to the supporting IRS evidence it might have been fine. On the other hand, if you have a history with them of making left-wing information sources/gatherers sound slimy (without good proof), I could see them bouncing you as a persistent nuisance. I would expect them to do the same for anyone sliming right-wing sources as well.

I wish you good fortune on reversing the ban. I like having honest fact-checkers on both sides.

No history of that whatsoever. In fact, that was my only ever edit to ANY entry.

The ban is based on a BLP (Biography of Living Persons) violation. I fail to see where I reported something unsubstantiated, unverifiable, or biased.

Perhaps it is because I did my own research?

I find it interesting that they don't want editors to research.

I rarely agree with you on matters of politics, but I do think you've got a case here where you should be able to get the ban reversed.

Like I'd said earlier, I think if you'd had a more about the IRS data you researched, that might have helped. Another issue was tone. Your edit made PIR sound like a shifty criminal organization, in the same way my ex-wife's divorce attorney made me sound shifty by referring to my nickname (Jay as opposed to John) as an alias.

Your edit did sound biased in that regard... but not enough to get you banned on the first shot.
