The CFL mercury nightmare
Steven Milloy, Financial Post
Published: Saturday, April 28, 2007
How much money does it take to screw in a compact fluorescent light bulb? About US$4.28 for the bulb and labour -- unless you break the bulb. Then you, like Brandy Bridges of Ellsworth, Maine, could be looking at a cost of about US$2,004.28, which doesn't include the costs of frayed nerves and risks to health. [...]

The CFL light bulb is going to cost you plenty. Just stick with incandescent. If you really want to live green, then don't use fluorescent bulbs of any kind and push to get nuclear power plants. Don't want incandescent? Then use LED bulbs.

I'm looking forward to cheap LED bulbs. They are so much more efficient than the fluorescents, live longer, and don't gray-out at low temps.

I prefer wind and solar power to nuclear...:)

They are both good, but are too dependant upon weather and not very efficient (we can only get better than 20% efficient solar in the lab). If you are really against nuke, then how does geothermal grab your fancy?
