Lights Out

We just lost power here at work. A heavy storm made things dark for about 15 minutes.

The facility designers did not think to add emergency lighting in the bathrooms and some ladies got stuck.

I had to go, too. The bathroom was dark and I had no flashlight. What could I do? No matches or open flames are allowed inside. Where could I get light?

My cellphone.

The display on my cellphone provides enough light to see to do a few quick things like find a key, locate a door in an unlit room, or aim at a urinal and not miss. I am sure those ladies didn't think of other items that might produce light, like a pager.

Fortunately, someone did have a flashlight.

Unfortunately, all the toilets and sinks are "touchless" electronic type. No washing or flushing allowed! But there is hand sanitizer available.

So much depends on electricity. One thing I do for my house is make sure I have an old-style analog phone. If the power goes out, my cell might not work and the wireless handsets certainly won't.

Bummer about the electronic faucets. Power went out here about 6 months ago and all you could see was people flipping their phones open. I did decided to bring in one of those small book lights that you can get at Target for a buck to allow for some additional light and for when your battery is low for those who sometimes forget to plug it in to recharge at night. I don't know any one like that at all.

Hmm, must have just been your "trailer" cause we didn't loose power. Course the emergency lighting in our entire building doesn't work...epsecilaly the stairwell lights. So, most of us have flightlights in our desks since cell phones are evil and don't exist.

Uh.. not a trailer... I am in 808.

HUGE building.

I am so glad I am not the only one with an old fashioned phone in the house lol

From my time in Phoenix I also learned to keep alot of alternative light source available, monsoon season can be a bitch :)
